This is a retirement home for Mr. and Mrs. Althausen. It began construction January 30, 2007. This large site backs onto a black water swamp. The site also has a high canopy of Oak and Gum trees. The Althausens asked me for a quiet retreat where they could watch the wildlife walk by their residence. They also asked for a house which would not be too large, but would still be a piece of sculpture they could live in.
The house has the following features: A secret garden screening the Master Bath but allowing it to fall out into the environment. A Second Floor Library where you can read and watch for deer. A branched Strut canopy over the entry which mirrors the trees on site. |
